“My dream nourished this house.” Emanuel Ungaro
La Cavalerie opens its doors to guests for the first time in July 2025.
La Cavalerie is a secret family estate nestled among organic olive orchards in the serene foothills of Provence’s Luberon mountains.
Restored by legendary designer Emanuel Ungaro, this storied estate like no other invites guests into a world of inspiration and to a journey through time. History meets luxury, and one man’s singular vision is realized in a series of indoor and outdoor spaces designed for gathering - a place where family and friends gather to share stories, music, food and the pleasure of good company.
A creative heaven
World-renowned fashion designer Emanuel Ungaro embarked on a journey through Provence in search of the perfect haven to bring his vision of a creative retreat to life. He found it in La Cavalerie, where his dream took shape. The result is a unique fusion of timeless architecture, artistic inspiration, modern comfort, and an atmosphere of tranquility and renewal.
The estate has long been a creative haven for artists, musicians, and thinkers drawn to its restorative energy. Whether hosting intimate concerts in the medieval chapel, private wine tastings, or culinary workshops, every experience is designed to awaken the senses and nourish the soul.
Moments of sharing and celebration
La Cavalerie is a place for meaningful connection.
At La Cavalerie, the art of the table is a ritual, woven into the very fabric of its identity. Meals are a moment of celebration, where Provence’s rich culinary heritage comes to life. From breakfasts served with homemade preserves to candlelit feasts beneath the stars, every detail is curated to create an unforgettable dining experience.
Vintage tableware, carefully collected over generations, enhances the authenticity of each setting, while handpicked wines from the family’s private cellar complement every dish. Ingredients are locally sourced, ensuring a deep connection between the land and the table.
Dining at La Cavalerie is a sensory journey, where flavors, textures, and stories are shared in an atmosphere of warmth and conviviality.
A regenerative estate
La Cavalerie stands as a beacon of history and elegance. Originally founded as a Knights Templar commandery in the 12th century, this 65-hectare estate has been meticulously restored by the Ungaro family to offer an experience where past and present intertwine.
Guests are invited to immerse themselves in a world of creative inspiration and serenity, where every pathway, every olive tree, and every sun-drenched terrace holds a story waiting to be discovered.
La Commanderie
It is the result of the creative expression and vision of fashion designer Emanuel Ungaro. Upstairs are six grand bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, including a majestic double-height main bedroom.
The ground floor is a series of beautifully decorated rooms, with a large Italian-style family room which took Emanuel Ungaro 5 years to craft, together with a team of local artisans. A collection of exquisite objects curated over the years and travels of the designer create a unique and magical atmosphere to the house.
Outside, the house is surrounded by sun-bathed and shadowed terraces, and complemented by a 25-meter long swimming-pool.
La Bergerie
Set apart from the main Commanderie, La Bergerie is a beautifully restored 300sqm 17th-century farmhouse. It is truly the new chapter of the estate, as the renovation project has been thought and overlooked by Cosima Ungaro and her partner, Austin Feilders.
With four spacious en-suite bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and serene living spaces designed for relaxation, including a music room with state-of-the-art audio system. The interiors blend rustic authenticity with contemporary refinement—exposed wooden beams, handwoven textiles, and antique furnishings from Ungaro’s private collection create an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.
Stepping outside, guests will find themselves surrounded by nature’s quiet embrace. A private terrace overlooks the rolling hills, while a vast pool carved from an ancient reservoir provides an oasis of tranquility.
Le Luberon
Nestled in the foothills of the Luberon, La Cavalerie is surrounded by some of Provence’s most breathtaking landscapes. Rolling vineyards, fragrant lavender fields, and ancient oak forests frame this secluded sanctuary, where nature reigns in quiet majesty. The estate lies near charming villages such as Lourmarin and Bonnieux, known for their cobbled streets, open-air markets, and artisanal craftsmanship. Just beyond its borders, guests can explore the stunning Parc Naturel Régional du Luberon, a haven for hikers and nature lovers.
